Kicking Goals in 2023!

Simple steps that can take to achieve the life that you want to live in 2023!

As we embark into the swing of things of 2023, there are mixed feelings about what to expect. On one hand there’s a level of excitement and optimistic anticipation having come out of the onerous restrictions and prolonged exposure to fear we found ourselves in over the last two and half years as a result of COVID. On the on the hand, the world is still experiencing prolonged economic uncertainty, largely as a result of the war in Ukraine, with its ripple effect continuing to impact food, fuel and energy prices.

Despite the mixed feelings and global uncertainty, the one thing we can plan for this year are the goals we want to achieve for ourselves. Even if making new year resolutions isn’t your thing, by turning your mind to a few realistic goals and making them tangible by writing them down, then you have a healthy roadmap toward bringing them into fruition.

Here are a few tips to get started on making realistic goals for the upcoming year:

  1. Start by Reflecting on the past year and identifying any patterns or areas for improvement.

  2. Make a list of your goals and prioritise them based on what is most important to you.

  3. Break your goals down into smaller more manageable steps.

  4. Be specific and set measurable goals, so you can track your progress and stay motivated.

  5. Allow yourself some flexibility as things may not always go as planned.

  6. Seek support from friends, family, or a professional coach if you need help achieving your goals.

  7. Stay positive and remind yourself of the progress you have made, even if you encounter setbacks.

Begin by thinking broadly about what you want to accomplish in the new year. Ask yourself questions about different aspects of your life, such as physical health, mental wellbeing, career, and finances. Write down your answers and dreams for each area - the process of writing them down will make them clearer and more tangible.

After you have written down your overall dreams, it's time to start breaking them down into smaller goals. For each goal or dream, come up with some simple steps that can help you achieve it. For example, if one of your goals is to save money, you could set a goal to save a certain amount every month, or to cut back on certain expenses. This will help make your goals easier to attain by breaking them down into smaller parts.

Once you have some actionable steps outlined, it's time to make sure that your goals are realistic. Be honest with yourself - if you set overwhelming, unattainable goals, you might set yourself up for disappointment. Make sure that your goals are challenging, but not so challenging that you are discouraged from taking action.

It may also help to set more concrete, measurable goals. This can make it easier to track your progress, and it will provide some motivation as you start seeing your goals become reality. Set times throughout the year to measure progress and adjust any goals if needed.

Finally, don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back when you have achieved one of your goals. This positive reinforcement will help to keep you motivated throughout the year, while also helping to maintain a positive attitude.

Getting organised and making realistic goals at the beginning of the year is a great way to set yourself up for success this year. As daunting as it may seem, once you get started, you’ll likely find that you’re ready to tackle anything that comes your way!
